How to Wear Stripes
Here is a quick guide for women on how to wear stripes and a few how not to wear stripe ideas. What body types should consider which direction of stripes, size and color/style.
The horizontal stripes are generally recommended for women with slimmer silhouettes to help create the illusion of curves. Curvy and robust women should avoid horizontal stripes all together except for the most daring of women as it can be almost impossible to avoid the widening affect of horizontal stripes. Clothing with horizontal stripes are usually worn loose so as not to create a widening affect.
Vertical Stripes can have a great slimming effect if chosen properly. Vertical stripes will also make you appear taller just beware of which colors to avoid which is explained in more detail below. Diagonal stripe are considered to have the same great qualities as vertical strips.
As for the size of the stripes fuller women should seek out thicker stripes as this will help smooth out any lumps or bumps. Petite women should go for thin or pin stripes as this flatters their figures. Remember that all body types are beautiful but still need to dress accordingly, think about it. Even a lady with a perfect body won't look right wearing ill fitting, out of style or just plain ugly clothes.
Generally speaking most women should aim for darker colors of stripes. Unless you are in your early 20's and feel you want to try and pull off some fun cute candy-color pin stripes. Vertical stripes usually fit better into a business or office setting and also keep in mind never to mix and match stripes. You do not want to be striped head to toe so seek out only one striped piece to wear with your outfit. Such as a vertical pin striped skirt with a solid color top.
